The American Association of University Women, the oldest women's organization in the United States, was founded in 1881. Currently there are over 100,000 members nationwide and 1300 branches. AAUW is a national organization that advances equity for women and girls through
advocacy, education, and research.
Our vision: AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy, and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.
AAUW is comprised of two corporations:
-
The Association
The Association advocates education and equity. Since its founding in 1881, members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day—educational, social, economic, and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in our public policy efforts, programs, Leadership and Training Institute, and diversity initiatives.

The AAUW Educational Foundation (EF) provides funds to advance education, research, and self-development for women and to foster equity and positive societal change. The Educational Foundation -- the world's largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women -- supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented. |

The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF), now part of EF, provides funding and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination. The AAUW LAF is the nation's largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education. |
