MEETINGS - 2011-2012 Branch Program List

Branch Program:Tuesday, Feb. 14, 6:45 pm
The Plight of the Polar Bears of Churchill, Manitoba
Our Savior's Celebration Community Life Center,

919 S. Washington,
Naperville

Speaker: Agnes Kovacs, Manager of School Groups and Teacher Programs at the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo
In October 2010, Agnes Kovacs spent a week in Manitoba in the Tundra Buggies of Frontiers North Adventures with staff from Polar Bears International (PBI). Agnes and other PBI Leadership Camp members studied the plight of the polar bear. The polar bear is expected to vanish from the wild by mid-century unless the amount of green house gases, especially carbon dioxide, released into the air daily is greatly reduced. The ecosystem of the Arctic Churchill area is a flagship example of mankind’s effect upon the Earth. Enjoy Agnes’ adventure and photographs as she shares her insights into the polar bears.

Annual Used Book Sale  -- our main fundraiser for our local scholarship and fellowships and grants for women administered through AAUW's Educational Foundation.  Over 10,000 volumes are offered for sale each June.

cardsRound Robin Bridge raises over $1000 each year for scholarships.  The groups meet each month from September until June in homes around Naperville.   Winners are announced in July or August .
Are you a bridge player?  We are looking for individual women, pairs of women or couples to complete the Round Robin Bridge games sponsored by AAUW.
Each year AAUW organizes bridge players in groups of ten pairs of players. Monthly, each pair plays one of the other nine pairs. Players do not need to be members of AAUW.
Both a fundraiser and a good way to meet people, this has been an AAUW project for many years.  Please
E-mail Us  if you are interested in playing.
