Program:Tuesday, Feb.

Plight of the Polar Bears of Churchill, Manitoba Our
Savior's Celebration Community Life Center, Rm. 105 919 S. Washington, Naperville
Speaker: Agnes
Kovacs, Manager of School Groups and Teacher Programs at the Chicago
Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo In October 2010, Agnes
Kovacs spent a week in Manitoba in the Tundra Buggies of Frontiers
North Adventures with staff from Polar Bears International (PBI). Agnes and
other PBI Leadership Camp members studied the plight of the polar bear. The
polar bear is expected to vanish from the wild by mid-century unless the amount
of green house gases, especially carbon dioxide, released into the air daily is
greatly reduced. The ecosystem of the Arctic Churchill area is a flagship
example of mankind’s effect upon the Earth. Enjoy Agnes’ adventure and
photographs as she shares her insights into the polar bears.

AAUW Breaking Through Barriers
2011 Angeline
Gale Memorial Scholarship Awarded
Many qualified applicants competed for our
Angeline Gale Memorial Scholarship. The 2011 Angeline Gale Memorial Scholarship was
awarded this year by the Naperville Area AAUW to Dawn Samet who is completing
her nursing degree at the College of DuPage.
Ms. Samet, a Naperville resident, wife and mother of three, made the
decision to change careers after the birth of her second daughter. Although successful in her career as a sales
and marketing professional, Ms. Samet’s journey navigating the healthcare
system for her daughter’s special needs inspired her to follow her heart and
become a nurse. She was accepted into
COD’s competitive nursing program and rearranged her life to juggle her family,
job and school.

which promotes the philogophy, "Put your money where
your heart is by shopping at your local independent businesses." Community

in Naperville. She still has dreams of future innovative activities
at Anderson's Bookshop that will benefit college students, parents
