Get Ready for Rainbow Reflections

Your fashion show committee is already busy preparing for the April 19th event and you should be thinking about inviting your friends, neighbors, church group ladies, quilting bee gals, bridge group, etc. to join us. This is our major fund raising event and it takes all of us to make it a success.

Committee chairman will be making some announcements at our March meeting. The committee will also have a brief meeting after the branch activities, so feel free to join us and volunteer to help out in some area.

Loretta Pearson will be working on the program for the luncheon as well as order forms for tickets and some posters which can be distributed. Maxine Babington is doing the publicity and plans to have articles in several local newspapers. Michele Phillips is working on donations for our raffle and door prizes. Kathy Dalton will be helping with the set up of donated goods and Virginia Shriver will be selling tickets. Barb Pagano and Luz Oliver and Sara Amrein are working with Talbots and our models. Pat Dewey and Sue Early are choosing some delicious luncheon entrees and Rosemary Murray and Katie Parkhurst will be selling tickets. Mary Alice Enright will be in charge of table decorations. If you would like to help in any of these areas and have not yet signed up-do so now.

50th ANNIVERSARY LUNCHEON

The luncheon on November 10th was a delightful day - enjoyed by 57 women (an ironic total since we chartered in 1957)! Erika Nicketakis, our District #5 Director, attended and gave a few words of welcome and congratulations. AAUW-IL president, Nancy Daugherty from Springfield, could not attend but sent her congratulations. An interesting historical branch exhibit (and a quiz - thanks to Carol Heisler and her sub committee!) were enjoyed by all! Nancy Fike, our speaker, took us back in time with some revelations about women and generated some laughs as we viewed examples of our past fashions.
Joan Hoppe, a charter member in 1957, who has remained a branch member for 50 years, was presented with an honorary certificate from the Association in Washington D.C. All names of charter branch members were researched and we found only a few still in the area. Those attending were: Phyllis Harms, Joan Hoppe, Maxine Kempf and Margaret Nienstedt. It was unique to have these women stand before us - the original founders of our branch. Since 1957, our branch has had 25 presidents.

Of those, six are deceased and 14 attended: Phyllis Harms, Jane Franz, Judy Thornton, Elaine Otis, Lorraine Tacke, Jean Hopkins, Nancy Schuppert, Linda Meyer, Vel Dysart, Marken Gerhardt, Sandy Moser, Carol Heisler, Kathy Hahn (current president) and myself (11 of these women are still branch members). I would like to thank the committee for all the effort they put forth over the last year or more to make this event successful. They each did a share of the work, which helped us sail smoothly into November 10th! Thank you to: Kathy Hahn, Sandi Hall, Carol Heisler, Sandy Moser, Betty Schmidt, and Judy Thornton. Many thanks also to Linda Meyer for designing the logo for the invitation and program and to Loretta Pearson for typing the invitation and program. Thank you to each of YOU who attended! We missed those of you who could not but understand that life is full of many commitments - we will have extra programs available at the branch meeting on December 3rd for you.
~ Marlene Boncosky, 50th anniversary chairperson.
