President Kathy Hahn called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.

Secretary's Report: Approved as published in the newsletter.

Treasurer's Report: Meredith Sarkees reported a balance of $4564.53.

A representative of Home of the Sparrow shelter for battered women gave a short presentation about the needs of battered women in the county and how Home of the Sparrow helps them.

Fashion Show Update:
Mary Alice Enright displayed a centerpiece and encouraged members to buy their tickets.
Michele Phillips said the auction donations are coming in nicely. She has more letters for members who want to take them to retailers who may want to donate.
.Barb Pagano reported that of 9 models who originally signed up, 2 have reneged, so more models are needed.
.Judy Thornton offered advertising posters for bulletin boards around town.

Auction for Nov. 3: Hahn said 4 Colonies has been secured for the auction. She passed around a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in working on the event.

Interest Groups
Lois Soderberg passed around a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in going to see Les Miserables at the Marriott Lincolnshire.

Marlene Bonkosky announced the next Dining Out group will be March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the new Mimi's Café in Algonquin Commons.

Hahn reported that National erroneously listed our EF donation. Sandy Moser is working on getting it straightened out.

New Business
MCC Film Festival
report: Hahn said 3 members attended the festival. Our branch specified that our $100 donation be used for a scholarship for a woman student at MCC. We will re-examine this event next year to see if we want to participate in any way.

Huntley Branch Activity: This weekend the branch will go to an event at the Woodstock Opera House and dinner at Pirro's and is inviting anyone from our branch to join them.

Branch Pride recognition program: Hahn said she submitted information for recognition in the convention booklet.

Election of officers: Rosemary Murray read, on behalf of nominating committee, candidates: Kathy Hahn, president; Kathy Novak, secretary; Luz Olivera, membership vice-president; and Kay Preshlock, program vice-president. All unanimously elected.

Dates to remember
March 15: Newsletter deadline: March 15.

March 15: Girl Scout badge workshop: Barb Pagano advised participants to meet at North Elementary School at 8 a.m.

March 29: International Witaswan Day with film festival downtown.

March 31: Board meeting at home of Lynn Koutiel.

April 22: Equal Pay Day.

May 3: AAUW-IL convention. Leadership training on Friday night. A silent auction to benefit LAF will be held, and branches are asked to put together a gift basket to donate. Hahn suggested that each member donate $1 or $2 to have a local store professionally assemble a basket.

Business meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

Speaker: Laura A. Jones, who has served as a U.S. Secret Service agent, in the National Guard and as a police officer, discussed how to prevent identity theft and what to do if you are a victim.
