Child Care Directory Licensing and Accreditation
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) establishes licensing standards for day and night care centers, as well as preschools. The Illinois DCFS also issues licensing standards for day and night care in private homes. These standards cover necessary records, required safety standards, number of children permitted, nutritional requirements, staff qualifications and required space.
The Summary of Licensing Standards is available on the DCFS website (www.state.il.us/dcfs) and from the Elgin DCFS office at 595 S. State Street (the intersection of Routes 31 and 20).
